Vedablu

Sabahan Premium Gelato

Gelato, or the plural gelati, is Italy's regional variant of ice cream. As such, gelato is made with some of the same ingredients as most ice-creams around the world; milk (and cream), sugar (and other sweeteners), flavorings (fruits, nuts, essences, etc.) and air are the main ingredients.

Unlike many types of ice cream, gelato often does not contain eggs. Other ingredients that stabilize or emulsify may be used to improve the shelf life of the product. Gelato can be made using the hot process, which includes pasteurization, or the cold process, which doesn't require pasteurization. Both processes require a gelato batch freezer, which makes the end product by mixing the ingredients and incorporating air. Like high-end ice cream, gelato generally has less than 55% air, resulting in a denser product.

Gelato is typically made with fresh fruit or other ingredients such as chocolate (pure chocolate, flakes, chips, etc.), nuts, small confections or cookies, or biscuits. But the Sabah variant has exotic tropical fruit tastes like Durian flavor.

Destination Jeddah

Al-Saaj is situated on the hectic Amir Mut'eb Street in Al-Safaa district. The area is known for fast foods and is a popular drive-in for busy Arabs. While most of the time it is the 'hungry' who stop by, sometimes people even drive in to pray the compulsory daily prayers in congregation(in the open air).

Al-Saaj serves one of the best Arabic fast foods around, their shawarma being my favorite: roasted and shaved chicken rolled in tortillas along with onions and diced tomatoes. The shawarma is served in a tray of crisp french-fries, pickled cucumber, fresh sliced cucumber and a dip of yoghurt and chipotle chilli.yum! The tortilla rolls are briefly flattened on a hot plate to give it its crisp.

Although the restaurant provides spacious man-only seating on the ground-floor as well as family section on the first floor, I am more accustomed to having the take away in our car!

Happy eating!

Cendol

Cendol is a local Malay dessert made of thick green rice vermicelli dipped in coconut milk and sweetened with brown or white sugar and chilled with crushed ice. Topped with creamy corn, agar-agar (jelly), glutinous rice and red beans makes it more irresistible. While it is available throughout Malaysia, the best of it is available at the roadside stall in kilometer 11, Sg. Gadut, Seremban, Negeri Sembilan.

For RM 2.50 can you eat all you can, top up as much as you want and “bungkus” (take away) for the road trip. As a bonus you can be updated on history of Malaysia and its tourist attraction by the all know, ex-army boss of the cendol outlet.
